Day 12 - Franz Josef

Today the weather was terrible so all flights to the glacier were cancelled and skydiving was a no go yet again.

So we spent the morning rearranging our trip so we could stay an extra day, as the weather is supposed to be so much better tomorrow. Cross your fingers for us!

So, as it was raining we thought we might as well get amongst it and get outside so we took a three hour hike past some pretty rainbow rocks, and the Waiau river, meaning 'smoky waters' after the mist that usually rises from it. Three hours from our hostel to the base of the glacier.

I needed to wee more than anything and so I shamefully added to the stream flowing out into the river before ploughing on to the base. This thing is huge!!!!

We began our descent before losing the will to continue along the way. So we hitchhiked with some Aussies who very kindly dropped us right outside our hostel! Cheers guys :)

It was a few drinks in the bar, eventually leaving me to spend some quality time alone in the bushes until I could stomach going back to bed. Then it's up for our glacier walk tomorrow and skydive if the weathers good. Maybe all the wine wasn't such a great idea!

Pray for sun!
